2nd print competition

Report courtesy of Marjorie Burge.

On Friday 8th Zoe Garnham-Archer of Invicta Camera Club, judged our 2nd Print Competition. Good to see so many members producing prints, giving Zoe seventy five images to consider and comment upon. The league competitions always produce such a variety of images and we had portraits, wildlife, some lovely landscapes, and an insight into the wanderings of our photographers – some staying close to home, some travelling the world. Zoe gave her full attention to each individual image and was generous in her praise, finding much to enjoy, but, as judges do, also wanting areas to be toned down, looked for more texture in dark areas, not keen on any vignetting, and preferred her models to be seen in a good light. Just nine images to be chosen out of so many gave Zoe a difficult time and she put a lot of thought into her selection, holding back several in each division before making her final choice.

Division 1:

1st George Pearson with Young Musician
2nd Helen Taylor with Softly Arum
3rd Nicholas Hill with Afterglow at Mono

Division 2:

1st Di Long with Tipping Point
2nd Maria O’Connell with Freestyle Free Fall
3rd Avril Christensen with Chernobyl, Russia's Shattered Dream

Division 3:

1st Frank Newington with In the Action

3rd Marcus Rainbow with The Benefit of Experience

Next Friday, 15th December, will be our last meeting before the Christmas break and we will be in festive mood – wearing our Christmas jumpers, eating mince pies, and enjoying (is that the right word?) a Christmas Quiz. When we come back in January it will be on Thursday 4th – not on the Friday – when Paul Adams DPAGB ARPS will be giving us the benefit of his experience with 'Printing to Further Distinctions'. Visitors welcome. Members will need to be getting their entries ready for The Chairman’s Salver.

We meet every Friday at Givaudan Sports and Social Club, Kennington Road, Ashford TN24 0LT starting at 7.30, with coffee and bar facilities. We are half way through our season now, and you are able to join to the end of the season with a reduced subscription.  We are a very friendly club with photographers of all levels; tuition is given at workshops for members and on the club outings members can team up to gain experience. You are welcome to come along as a visitor, talk things through and make some friends, before making that final decision. Find out all about us at www.ashfordps.org.uk or telephone our secretary Katrina Devenport on 01303 814842 if you have any questions.
