Talk by Carol White-Griffiths LRPS

On Friday 19th May, Carol White-Griffiths LRPS, President of Dartford & District Camera Club gave her talk ‘Capturing the Moment’. Carol’s photography was mostly following Dartford Football Club, catching dynamic images of leaping, jumping and flying footballers, recording delight and horror in their battle against the elements and the opposition using, as well as her hands-on camera, a remote at the far end of the pitch carefully hidden behind the goal. Perched on a stool and close to the action, Carol was often mud-splattered and even knocked over by close encounters with the players – ‘no glamour involved in being a sport photographer’ she said. Carol’s talk shared with us everything she had learned about the art of sport photography, shooting low, keeping the ball in the picture, concentrating on faces and expressions, and overall the need to understand the game and be able to anticipate the next move.  She did cover other sports, indoor and out, but football was her main passion and much of her photography was used by the Dartford club in their publicity, even one image covering the side of a taxi. Her narrative was very entertaining, full of observations and stories – another good evening at APS.

Next Friday, 26th May, is Awards Night and Buffet Supper (invitation only) marking the end of our season.

We meet back again at the beginning of September later this year, at Givaudan Sports and Social Club, Kennington Road, Ashford TN24 0LT. Our evenings start at 7.30 and we finish around 10.00, with an interval part way through, when coffee and bar facilities are available. We are a very friendly club with photographers of all levels; tuition is given at workshops for members and on the club outings members can team up to gain experience. All competitions are judged by KCPA judges. New members always welcome. Check out our website at www.ashfordps.org.uk to find out who we are and what we do, or telephone our secretary Katrina Devenport on 01303 814842 if you have any questions.
